Kiwanis Club of De Pere Members are called “Kiwanians”
What are Kiwanians?
Kiwanians are men and women from all walks of life, united in their commitment to serving children and their communities worldwide. Kiwanis Club of De Pere is a part of Kiwanis International and we were “chartered” in October 1951. Kiwanis Club of De Pere members live, work or are retired living in the Green Bay metro area not just the City of De Pere. Our De Pere K-family includes sponsorship of the St. Norbert College Circle K and the De Pere High School Key Club.
Kiwanis Club of De Pere is a part of the Wisconsin Upper Michigan District (WI-UM) of Kiwanis International Founded in 1915 in Detroit and with headquarters now in Indianapolis, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service- and community-minded individuals who support children and young adults around the world. More than 600,000 Kiwanis-family members in 96 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues.
The name Kiwanis was derived in 1915 from a Detroit area Native-American word "Nun Kee-Wan-is" or "we trade". A more in depth interpretation found it meant: "we have a good time - we make noise". We do them all! We "trade" ideas and projects for community / youth improvements; we make quiet "noise" with our financial contributions to local causes, and we have fun doing that with our meetings, fund raisers and projects!
Through these efforts, Kiwanis International and Kiwanis Club of De Pere truly is fulfilling it’s motto:
"Serving the Children of the World."
